WATCH the video, HEAR the audio, READ the blog…

This weekend I let my self spend 3 full days immersed in a gorgeous environment of learning, business and self-discovery.

I used to be a seminar junkie – I admit it, and many, many weekends would be filled with high-fives and 12 hour days of “pushing” and forcing my self “step up” and “do what it takes.”

These days I like to think I am a lot more discerning.

Of course, it’s still important to consider strategy and steps and a plan to know where you are going,

BUT…

What I remembered is…

There are ways of doing this, and then, there are ways of doing this.

Push and Force

When you take a more masculine approach to getting things done, it’s all about the push and the force.

Step up. Do what it takes.

Push. Force. Deadlines. Timeframes. Pressure. Stress.

Make. It. Happen.

Sure. Shit gets done, but it’s exhausting. Totally exhausting.

That’s the way to burnout.

And a lot of the time, the “doing” is all about just getting it done, often for the sake of it, with no clear purpose, strategy or reason why.

But you did it, and it’s done. Celebrate.

The Problem With Push And Force

Push is about stepping behind something and putting all YOUR energy into IT.

Force is similar – making something go where it doesn’t always want to. Or isn’t ready to. Squeezing square pegs into round holes. Forcing it. To go where it ain’t supposed to.

Whether it’s a relationship, a body part, your work, or another person.

You KNOW what I’m getting at here.

It becomes about control and manipulation.

It might get you to where you’re aiming, but by gosh it’s a hard way there.

On The Flip Side, There’s Power And Flow

The opposite of push is pull, or flow – a gentle tug, that leads you, and takes you where you need to go.

The opposite of force, is power, something from within propelling you forward, rather than you propelling and forcing IT.

If that makes sense.

[ctt template=”1″ link=”dJ77I” via=”no” ]Push and force is created by you to act upon something. It’s external.[/ctt]

Power and flow comes from within you and draws you into the momentum and direction you need to go. It comes from your heart, not your head.

You can’t think about it, analyse it or make it happen.

It just does.

And When It Does, Choose To Ride The Wave

Step into the power and flow and allow it to take you where it’s going.

THIS, is probably the biggest challenge. Because often the “flow” will take you to a place you don’t consciously want to go to. Or even know exists.

But when you ride the wave of power and flow that comes from within, it’s actually taking you to where your SOUL desires you to go.

Versus the place your mind wants to take you to keep you safe.

Riding The Wave Can Be Scary As Hell

You know when you’re riding the wave because whatever you’re doing is easy. Unexpected. Free. Powerful. Big. Full. Glorious. Unknown. And sometimes scary as hell.

Because often you’ve never been there before.

Or never this big.

Whether it’s writing. Art. Surfing. Running. Working. Negotiating. Talking.

You know what I’m talking about.

Those times when you’re under the influence of power and flow. When hours disappear. When you create more in a day than you normally do in a week. When who you are is so much more than you and whatever you are doing is almost beyond your control.

When you’re there, and you know it…

Don’t Jump Off. Ride The Wave.

For many people, their first impulse is to stop. Jump off. Leave the wave and let the power and flow move on without them.

And go back to pushing and forcing.

Because it’s unusual. A different feeling. Not uncomfortable so much as unfamiliar.

And while it’s great, they jump off.

Don’t.

Because the more you can learn to ride this power and flow and incorporate it into your life, the more familiar it will become. The more you will create, grow, expand and express.

The closer you will move towards who you REALLY are.

So How Do You “Get” It?

Practice.

Awareness.

Knowing and noticing when you are in that space of power and flow, and understanding and recreating the conditions and state of mind that allows you to connect into it.

Setting your self up to find it, connect to it and ride it. To harness YOUR power and flow.

It’s about getting out of your head and letting it take you to where it needs to, because that is where you need to go.

This whole blog post was written from that space of power and flow – of sitting down with no intention or ideas other than to start writing and keep writing and get out of my head and not censor or think or edit or re-read.

But just to write. To speak. To express whatever needs to be expressed. Whatever needs to come out.

To come from the heart – a place of power and flow, versus the head- a place of push and force.

Both needed. Both playing a part. But one never being used enough.

One that the world needs a whole lot more of.

Where Is Your Power And Flow?

When have you been in a space of flow? Of allowing ideas and thoughts and things to move as they need to move? As they want to move?

What conditions did you create to allow this to happen?

And what can you do to make it happen again?

Soon…

Go ride your wave of power and flow. You know you love it!
