Liz Watt Writes…
What I’m Pondering
I had an epiphany this week.
It was prompted by something that came up on my social media feed.
…The idea that if you spend time alone you are struggling with authenticity.
I spend a lot of time alone. I like my company, I prefer working alone rather than being told what to do by someone else. Social situations can drain me, and introspection re-energizes me.
Being alone is not that I don’t know who I am. It’s the opposite.
I do, finally know who I am (to a degree of course, there’s always more).
It’s that who I am is not the norm, it’s not what society wants me to be. So to truly be my authentic self in that society, with no filters, is challenging. It has consequences and repercussions.
How do you live authentically in the world and thrive as you??
What’s New This Week
I started writing…
Out of it came three key ingredients that need to come together to live authentically.
It’s not about changing you. It’s about… well, it’s about quite a few things.
Check out this week’s article where I talk about…
- The parts that make you who you are.
- The two co-exiting and opposing external realms we live in – that both challenge and support authenticity
- The rules of life you need to understand – to play successfully
- The process of integrating these ingredients and creating space for authenticity
One Thing To Ask Yourself
I finally realised if you struggle to find your place in the world, the problem isn’t you. The problem is you trying to change yourself to fit into the world.
It’s never going to work.
I’ve understood this intellectually for years, but you know when something lands and you really feel it clearly for the first time. You can finally define it. You know it.
It’s hard to live as your authentic self in a world designed for the opposite of who you are.
Once you finally figure out who you are, how then do you live in the world as your authentic self?
Once you finally realise it’s not about changing you, but being more of you. And that who you are, doesn’t fit into the world.
Do you know who you are?
Where in your life have you been living authentically? Inauthentically?
Where can you show more of who you are?
Having awareness is the first step. Making changes and creating a life and a reality designed for you is the next…
The choice is yours…
